This unit combines the experience of trail biking, canoeing, and basic backwoods backpacking. Units spend one day and night out on the tail, half a day mountain biking, and a full day canoeing down the New River, in addition to participating in traditional camp activities. Participants should be able to ride a mountain bike on easy/moderate trails and have the ability to hike moderate terrain with a 30 lbs backpack pack and be able to swim. Bikes, helmets, backpacks and tents are provided. Campers may bring their own gear at their own risk. Be sure to bring a waterproof camera to capture some of the most beautiful scenery immaginable.
Camp Alta Mons' Canoeing program begins with basic skills training on the pond, then adds safety and rescue training in the pool before spending an entire day on the NEW RIVER. All campers wear personal flotation devices at all times on the river and are led by experienced river guides. The biking trip begins with basic instructon at the camp and the ride is led by experience mountian bike guides. Bikes are 21 speed mountain bikes made by Specialized, a respected name in the Bike Industry. These top quality bikes are lightweight and durable. Helmets and water bottles are included with each bike.
