CANOEING/KAYAKING
Camp Alta Mons' Canoeing program begins with basic skills training on the pond, then adds safety and rescue training in the pool before spending an entire day on the NEW RIVER. Our canoes are specifically designed for river use to be the safest and most manuverable possible. All campers wear personal flotation devices at all times on the river and are led by experienced river counselors. Be sure to bring a waterproof camera to capture some of the most beautiful scenery immaginable.
This unit combines the experience of the canoe/kayak outing with guided instuction on basic backwoods and backpacking skills. These campers practice building fires, lashing, trail cooking, map reading, packing a backpack in main camp, then spend one day and night out on the trails of Alta Mons. Particpants should be able to swim and have ability to hike moderate terrain with a 30 lbs backpack pack.
This unit combines the experience of the canoe/kayak outing with the resident horseback program. Particpants will spend most of their time learning horsemanship skills and also incoporate training on canoe skills to prepare them for there day trip out. Particpants should be able to swim and be familar with horses.
