Facilities at Camp Alta Mons

Dining Hall

Camp Alta Mons has great meal service. All meals are served in our all-season, rustic, dining hall. Enjoy a cool breeze in the summer, or sit by a crackling fire in the winter as you enjoy some "good ole home cooking". Most meals are served buffet style, with the menu selected by your group in advance. A minimum of 15 is required for meal service and a maximum of about 200 can be accommodated under certain circumstances.

Alta Mons works hard to fulfill the values of our mission statement and the core beliefs of the Methodist Church by enabling ministry through providing all a safe and accessible sanctuary for their spiritual and physical enrichment. We offer three different and modern facilities to advance this goal.

Retreat Center - 46 person hotel style accomodation

Carter Cottage

The convenience of a three bedroom, two bath house, the serenity of this beautiful valley nestled in the mountains, and a sleeping capacity of 10 persons makes the Carter Cottage the ideal choice for families and other small groups. Complete with a kitchen, fireplace insert and tv/vcr one might never want to go home. Cost (without linens): $125.00 for one night, $100.00/night when staying 2-6 nights or $550.00 for a 7-night stay.

Cabins

For large groups, for our own summer camp, or for those hardy individuals who want no frills, Camp Alta Mons offers our simple, rustic cabins. A total of 12 cabins, each having 4 bunks (8 beds) provide the fair weather lodging for larger groups of youth or children. Cost: 11.50/person/night. Why not go to the dining hall and let us do the cooking for your group while you are here.

The Hogans

Isolated on a wooded hillside in 3 groups of two hogans and a picnic shelter each are the hogans. Used primarily as Jr. High summer campsites, these Hogan units make ideal primitive campsites for the smaller youth group or for individual spiritual get-a-ways. Cost: $5.75/person/night.

The Hut

Take two cabins and attach them to a 24x24 ft. bldg with a porch on the front and you have the hut. 16 beds and a heated (woodstove in the meeting room) meeting space make this a great three-season place for small groups. Cost: $5.75/person/night.

RV and Tent Camping

Only a short distance from Roanoke, VA Tech, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, Camp Alta Mons has 38 RV sites with water and electricity (and a dump station). We have 13 sites along the Roanoke River and 25 on the Family (Creek) side. They rent for $20.00/night*. Tent camping in our large, open, yet shaded tent area is available at $10/tent/night. (Groups of 25 or more can camp for $2/person/night.)
